Fix the cause, not the symptom
We dig until we understand why something broke, so it stays fixed.
byteleaf is a Johannesburg software studio. We design, build and look after the systems businesses run on, whether you are just starting out or have been trading for years — and we stay around after launch.
I started byteleaf because every business, whether it is just starting out or has been trading for years, ends up needing software, and too often has nobody dependable to turn to. byteleaf is built to be the one solution for everything business: a website for a brand-new idea, a booking system, an internal tool, an AI assistant.
Some people need something once: a single service, built well and handed over. Others need us urgently, when something breaks, a developer disappears or a deadline will not wait. We step in, fix it properly and keep things steady.
And many already have software that works but has grown old. We modernise it and improve it step by step, without stopping the business while we do it.
The code — the frontend, backend and AI that do the work.
Growth — software that's tended and keeps getting better, not built once and left.
A leaf with a circuit for a vein: living systems, wired with care.
We dig until we understand why something broke, so it stays fixed.
Every change comes with documentation and tidier code, so anyone can pick it up.
You always know what we did, what it cost and what comes next — without the jargon.
We recommend AI when it saves real time or money, and say so when it doesn’t.

When you work with byteleaf, you deal with the person building your software — no hand-offs and no call centres.
I’m Gerald, the founder of byteleaf. I’ve spent the last two years building software for real businesses, working remotely with a European company. I take a project from the first sketch all the way to launch, and I’m the person you’ll deal with the whole way through.
